TO THE NORTH SEA.

It's Christmas Eve and round me
Are dance and talk and jest,
And I'm striving to seem joyous,
Just as merry as the rest;
But the faces and the voices
They fade before my sight,
And I see the Northern streamers
Flush up the Arctic night.
Oh! bright our hall is gleaming,
And warm the fire-gleams play
On the holly others' eyes see,
But mine are far away,
They see your lamp-lit cabin,
Not all they seem to view,
And I fill them full with gladness,
With a long, dear look at you.
