Enjoyable

As a first-year man here on
the Grounds, I have heard
many of the pros and cons of
the fraternity system.
However, it seems that
everyone is leaving something
out when talking about
fraternities. I participated in
rush, and found it to be very
enjoyable.

Most of the houses were
friendly, interested, and
pursued conversation on my
level. Many feel, though, that
the fraternity system is archaic.
Might I point out, though, that
the fraternities here at Virginia
have progressed considerably
from the day of the thirties,
and that students just like the
ones objecting were
instrumental in effecting these
changes.

If certain students who
disagree with the fraternity
system would try to change the
system from the inside, as so
many others have succeeded in
changing it in the past, maybe
they, too, may succeed. After
all, there are many good things
in our fraternity system.

So, to the objectors and
brothers, both present and
prospective, if there is any
aspect of a particular house or
overall fraternity system that
you would like to see changes,
don't bitch about it until you
have tried to do something
about it.
