TO HIS GRACE FRANCIS GODOLPHIN, DUKE of LEEDS.
My Lord,
THE honour I have in being,
by baptism, your Grace's namesake,
a consequence of my being
distantly related to Francis Earl of
Godolphin, has emboldened me to
dedicate to your Grace this weak
essay at an imitation of our immortal
Shakspeare.
Having, my Lord, no incentive
to the liberty I presume to take,
but my respect for your Grace's taste
and virtues, I should only sully
the purity of my motive, were I to
expatiate on them.
I have the honour to be, My Lord,
Your Grace's Most humble, And most obedient Servant,
FRANCIS GODOLPHIN WALDRON.
Cross-court, Bow-street,
Covent-garden.
