INVOCATION.

Hear! hear! oh hear Thou universal Pow'r!
So oft invok'd, eternally unknown,
Where'er Thou deign'st to tinge the humble Flow'r,
Or breathe thy Spirit from a mortal Throne:
Thro' all thy Lightnings, where thy Thunders roll,
We humbly call the World's Almighty Soul!
Mangled on the sad Bosom of the Earth,
Behold dread Pow'r! a bleeding Victim lies!
Receive him from the Land that gave him Birth,
Father! throw back thy everlasting Skies!
The GOD approaches!—Mercy shakes the Sphere!
“I gave thee Being, find thy Refuge here!”
HOTWELLS, (Bristol) Feb. 12, 1793.
