Churchill defended, a poem

addressed to the minority [by Percival Stockdale]

collapse section

Only weak Men, or Men of wicked Views,
In narrow Limits would confine the Muse,
Who spurns Restraint; she's form'd, by Heaven's Decree,
Like every true-born Briton, to be free.
Her Subjects, at her Pleasure, she may change,
Take all Creation's, and all Fancy's Range;
To sordid Themes alone she must not stray,
Nor wing her Flight as Vice directs the Way.
