LIFE AND DEATH
From the German
One stroked the hair where yet the soft light played,
Saying: ‘I would have loved her had she stayed.’
Saying: ‘I would have loved her had she stayed.’
One turned with passionate sobbing to the wall:
‘So long to love, and this the end of all!’
‘So long to love, and this the end of all!’
One bent and kissed the mute lips with a smile:
‘Patience, sweet love, 'tis only for a while.’
‘Patience, sweet love, 'tis only for a while.’
