Return Of Prisoners

He commented that the North Vietnamese
have said they will not discuss the return of
prisoners until such a deadline has been set.

Mr. Weicker affirmed that he agreed with
Mr. Scott that American forces are in fact being
steadily withdrawn. Noting the distrust of many
people in the South Vietnamese government, he
asserted that those doubts "are multiplied
100-fold with the North Vietnamese."

He expressed hope that the issue will be
resolved by Congressional action and that "we
have learned a lesson as a nation."

Discussing the extension of the Selective
Service system, Mr. Stennis declared that the
new law corrects many of the faults of the
present law, including putting a ceiling on the
number of personnel in each of the services.

Mr. Scott said that he believes that revenue
sharing by the federal government is a good
idea, but that parts of the measure may have
trouble in Congress.

The Senators also expressed opinions on the
Amtrak railroad passenger system. Mr. Weicker
said that the system should not be improved
"until it is shown how it connects up with
other modes of transportation."
