University of Virginia Library

Architectural Award

Edgar F. Shannon, Jr. will present the Thomas Jefferson
Memorial Foundation medal in architecture to Marcel Brur,
internationally distinguished architect and teacher. The award
carries a $5,000 prize. Last year's winner was Alvar Aalto of
Finland.

Mr. Brur, whose offices are in New York City, is the first
person to be named both Thomas Jefferson Foundation
professor and medal winner. In June he will receive the
American Institute of Architects' 1968 Gold Medal.

President Shannon also will present the Thomas Jefferson
award to an outstanding member of the University community
whose identity is not announced until the presentation.
Last year the award was given to Hardy Cross Dillard who
retires this year as dean of the School of Law.
