747.

[Man mocks a Saviour, and High-priest]

They that passed by reviled Him, &c. —xxvii. 39, 40.

Man mocks a Saviour, and High-priest
Who comes the temple to destroy,
His power that rescues the distress'd,
Who will not for Himself employ,
A Son of God the world deride,
A Man exposed and crucified.
But we our great High-priest admire,
Himself the temple fill'd with God,
The God who doth for man expire,
Who buys and saves us through His blood,
And bids us on His cross ascend
To reign with our immortal Friend.
