EARLY PROPENSITIES.

How early, genius shows itself at times!
Thus Pope, the pride of poets, lisp'd in rhimes;
And thus the great Sir Joseph (strange to utter!
To whom each insect-eater is a fool)
Did, when a very little boy at school,
Munch spiders spread upon his bread and butter!

Sir Joseph Banks, the president of the Royal Society, and who has often declared this rare fact of himself, and who is so improved in power as to be able to devour an alligator.
