[How can Thine own apostles fall?]
All ye shall be offended because of Me this, &c.
—xxvi. 31.
How can Thine own apostles fall?
The' occasion of offence they take
From that Thou dost endure for all,
And basely all their Lord forsake:
And still there are who faith profess
Till call'd to suffer for Thy cause,
In times of trial and distress
They faint and stumble at Thy cross.
