SCENE I.
A gate of the palace facing the sea shore: a vessel with sailors ready for the departure of Alcestes.Olinthus
alone.
'Tis so—I shall be soon without a rival:
At length Alcestes must forsake these shores:
But yet I tremble at his long delay;
And what if Cleonice should repent!
O! I would never—no—it cannot be:
'Tis but his friends, perhaps, who loth to part,
With many a fond embrace protract his stay.
