Pitchers Control
After that, the game settled
down, as the opposing pitchers
took control of the game. The
three Virginia moundsmen
(Duane Harris, Harvey and
Doug Heatwole) threw an
excellent game, giving up only
four hits and two earned runs
over the nine stanzas.
As the game moved into the
top of the ninth, the Cavaliers

a hit , and was moved up by
Larry Murray's bunt. Howie
Jordan knocked in Hall from
second base, and moved to
third on Tom Kayser's single.
The Dukes' pitcher Dobson
then served up a pitch to
Anderson, who lashed it deep
into the outfield.
