Fight Of The Night

St. A's Massie and independent
Hurley stood toe-to-toe for three
rounds connecting on repeated
punches to each other's head, in
what most observers called the best
fight of the night. Neither boxer
retreated a single step throughout
the match, and Massie went away
with a unanimous decision and a
long standing ovation, which went
to Hurley as well.

The 157-pound match was a
slugger's duel, as Pika's Phil Barber
took a split decision form
independent Andy Prevatali.
Neither boxer, however, could land
the killer punch.

Slugger Charlie Frazier of St. A.
won out over dancer David
Hollingsworth at 167. Frazier dazed
Hollingsworth with a strong right in
the first and went on to an
unanimous decision.

The Large Gathering Came Away Well-Satisfied As Tense, Exciting Matches Were Plentiful

A tight match in the 178-pound
class ended with Phi Psi Tom
Gilroy, last year's runner up,
outpointing Dave Bowman of Zete,
who was boxing for the fourth
straight year. Gilroy finally entered
the winner's circle as he came out
with a unanimous decision in a hard
fought battle.
