Beyond
Humor

Student Council has been a group eminently
vulnerable to satire, a quality it shares with
most other governments. The Liquifactionists
recent newcomers to the University political
scene, have capitalized upon this vulnerability
in the Student Council elections now
underway, fashioning an attention-seeking
campaign, complete with posters which have
been quickly added to dormitory wall
collections.

Sometimes, the Liquifactionists satire is
actually humorous and we would hesitate to
deny anyone his jollies, even if he chooses to
get them by running for Student Council. But
there we drew the line. The Council race now
underway is a highly serious one,
characterized by an increased field of
concerned candidates on new and important
issues. We fail to see the humor in any group
running an ostentatious campaign which fails
to come out with any ideas at all for
concerted action on Council and then expects
to get elected. More than childish
exhibitionism, Council needs functioning
minds. We would hope that those voting in
the upcoming College elections will realize the
seriousness of their votes and consider
carefully what they will be voting for.
