MAY MACFARLANE.

SONG XLI.

1

Spring comes with pleasant green,
And herbs of heartsome odour;
Sweet sounds the silver stream,
With cowslip-cover'd border:
The lark sings 'mang the clouds,
On castle top the starling;
While lonesomelie I wauk,
For bonnie May Macfarlane.

2

The gloamin brings nae rest,
I dauner dowf and drearie;
And dowie comes the morn,
Wi' dreaming of my dearie.

72

Then rise the rosie lips,
The raven tresses curlin;
And smile the lovesome eyes
Of bonnie May Macfarlane.

3

Farewell Dalgonar glens,
Where chrystal streams are flowin;
Green hills and sunward braes,
Where buds the snowy gowan.
My heart is sick in love,
With all the world's darlin;
In foreign climes I'll mourn
For bonnie May Macfarlane.
