Meyer Sets Record
The Old Dominion course
was a flat 5.4 miles of roads, so
the slipping and sliding was cut
to a minimum and a new
course record was established.
Phil Meyer, looking back in
shape again after a two week
fling with the flu, established
the new record at 27:47.
Meyer's time eclipsed the
old record of 29:11 held by
University of Richmond ace
Fred Guest. In all five runners
snapped the record. Old
Dominion's only two front
runners Ron Logan and Ron
Erwin finished two-three
respectively and also blitzed
the old record.
But after these two came in,
Virginia scored with a pack of
eight dripping runners led by
Joe Cacciapaglia, fourth, and
Jim Wood, fifth. Captain Frank
Andrew was sixth and Brew
Barron was Virginia's last
scoring runner at seventh.
