SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS FOR SERVICES RENDERED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF
VIRGINIA MEDICAL CENTER

  • The following resolution was adopted:
  • WHEREAS, Section 2.1-127 of the Code of Virginia states that the Attorney General shall have the authority to settle any dispute, claim or controversy involving the interests of the Commonwealth, provided that such action has first been approved by the head of the department, institution, division, board or bureau which is interested;
  • WHEREAS, the Medical Center is now working directly with the Office of the Attorney General in matters of settlement related to debts owed for patient care services;
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that for the purpose of complying with this Section, the Executive Director of the University of Virginia Medical Center is granted the authority to act on behalf of the University of Virginia to negotiate settlements related to the Medical Center's billing for goods and services that it has rendered, subject to final approval by the Attorney General or, in certain cases, the Governor.
