[Bound in chains of hidden night]
The devils besought Him, saying, . . . Suffer, &c.
—viii. 31.
Bound in chains of hidden night,
Stragglers from the' infernal pit,
Devils cannot wreak their spite,
Till our sovereign Lord permit:
Jesus covers us and ours,
Who on His great name depend,
Limits hell's malicious powers,
Saves His people to the end.
