Players To Present
'Sweeney Todd'

Monday, December 7, through
Saturday, December 12, at 8:30
P.M. in Minor Hall, the Virginia
Players will present their third
major production of the year,
George D. Pitt's nineteenth century
melodrama, "Sweeney Todd, the
Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

The play is one of the many
Grand Gugnol extravaganzas which
flourished in England for half a
century after the Industrial
Revolution. A raging villain,
stalwart hero, demure heroine,
multiple murders followed by the
eventual triumph of good over evil,
trap doors, and highly exaggerated
acting style are features of the play.

Directing the play is Arthur
Greene, assisted by List Skeels.
Scenic design is by LaVahn Hoh,
costumes by Lois Garren. Featured
in the title role is Peter Webb. The
cast includes: Lawrence Alaimo,
Paul Ames, Debbie Baughman, Jim
Carrington, Candy Clark, Sandi
Cooke, Wiley Francisco, Lois
Garren, Tony Gilbert, Bill Hartung,
Claudia Haynes, Gene Hollins,
Carter Lynch, George Miller, Peter
Pentz, Mike Rudolph, Rixey Smith,
David Spurlock, and Maria Toames.
