April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Jefferson

MISCELLANEOUS

A FIRST-YEAR student may
operate a motor vehicle at the
University at Easters provided he
had a 2.0 grade point average for
1st semester. The 2.0 is a change
from previous years. Prior to this he
had to have a 2.5 GPA for the 1st
semester. This change is being
attempted on a trial basis to see if a
permanent change can or should be
made. The car must not be in the
city of Ch'ville or the county of
Albemarle before 6 p.m. the Thursday
proceeding Easters and must be
removed from the city and/or
county no later than 6 p.m. on
Sunday of Easters weekend. 1st
year students who wish to register a
car must come by the office of the
Dean of Student Affairs by 5 p.m.
Thursday April 17 to declare
intentions.

ALL ENTRIES in the University
Union's Fine Arts Contest have
been returned to the U. Union
office. You may pick them up on
any week day, 9-5. Friday, April 18
will be the last day for returning
these entries.

DURING the week of April
14-18 all rising third year students
should confer with their Association
Deans about declaring a major
or informing them of their plans to
transfer. These students should first
report to the lobby of Old Cabell
between 2-5, April 10-17, and
receive instructions about the procedure.
The distribution of materials
will not take place on Founder's
Day, April 14. Association Deans
and Dept. advisers will be available
according to schedules posted on
their office doors. Rising third year
students who do not declare majors
are ineligible to return to the
College.

MARGARET L. BATES, professor
of government at Smith College
and editor of the Bulletin of the
African Studies Association, will
discuss "Black Africa and Black
America," tonight at 8 in the South
Meeting Room of Newcomb Hall.
The talk is sponsored by the
University's Graduate School of
Arts and Sciences and the department
of government and foreign
affairs.
