LOVE.
Love is divine, — unselfish, asking naught,
But winning it by the attractive force
Of generous trust and sweet unfearing, fraught
With the grace of tenderness to mark its course.
Harshness and doubt cannot abide with love.
Doubt is from selfishness, and that can ne'er
Yoke with the sentiment that from above
Was sent, which Scripture sayeth casts out fear.
Love has no limit, — 't is the God in man,
Broad, universal, deep, and evermore
The same, as when the stars their song began
Of sweet accord, when Time creation bore.
O, could we feel what Love is, passion free,
Then God the good, indeed, with us would thronéd be!
