CHAPTER VI. The poetical works of John and Charles Wesley | ||
97.
[Jesus, if Thou Thy servant guard]
Take heed that ye do not your alms [Practise not your
righteousness. Gr.] before men, &c.
—vi. 1.
Jesus, if Thou Thy servant guard,
I shall obey Thy laws,
Nor seek from man my base reward,
Nor aim at his applause:
O may I cast the world behind,
While in Thy work employ'd,
And only bear it in my mind
That I am seen of God.
