Faculty Meeting
The members of the Student Council have
endorsed and assumed without any opposition
the 11 proposals offered by the Student
Coalition at yesterday's rally. The same proposals
will be offered for the consideration of
the faculty of the College at its meeting
today. We cannot urge it strongly enough to
add its powerful support in such a vital area.
The faculty will also be offered a motion
by Professor James W. England of the mathematics
department that a staff member of
The Cavalier Daily be allowed to sit in on and
report faculty meetings. The meetings are
devoted almost exclusively to matters obviously
of particular concern to students, and
are seldom, if ever, involved with personal or
other concerns which should not be publicized
(with the possible exception of the
meeting on conferring degrees). Thus Mr.
England's proposal, in effect, to let students
know what goes on in the meetings, seems
reasonable enough, and we urge the faculty to
accept it.
