A FOOTNOTE
This story of the University of Virginia Library is
being printed without footnotes. Among the reasons
for this decision is the obvious fact that the greater
part of the source material is in the form of archives
which exist only at the University of Virginia. A typed
form of the text with over a thousand notes has been
deposited in the Alderman Library and is available at
the Library for examination. Inquiries from outside of
Charlottesville may be addressed to the Reference Librarian.
So far as the printed form of the story is concerned,
therefore, this is a footnote to end all footnotes.
