SCENE III.

Roxolana, Rustan.
Roxolana.
Rustan! speak,
Say, is it done?

144

Rustan.
O would to heaven it were!
Or ne'er had been attempted!

Roxolana.
Be of courage.
Expect the fatal mandate that at once
Will end all fears.

Rustan.
I wait it with the dread,
The agoniz'd impatience of a man
Who listens for the sentence that must save,
Or end his being—Sure I heard a noise!

Roxolana.
Let not vain terrors of the night destroy
Thy strength of reason. Arm thee for th' event.
Where is Prince Zanger?

Rustan.
Madam, we are observ'd.
'Tis he—

Roxolana.
Leave us.—I see him much disturb'd.
