[Mark, how th' expiring taper's rays]
Καλα πεφανται.
Mark, how th' expiring taper's rays,
Their radiance to protract,
Shoot into momentary blaze;
And perish, in the act!

So, when in mortal agony's thrall,
Departing virtue lies,
Brief bursts of splendor grace its fall!
It sparkles—as it dies!
