To his respected Friend Master John Wood.

Sir, be pleased to give a friendly look
On these my lines coucht in this little book,
I hope they'll answer th'name of orthodox,
The arguments for proof are sound as rocks,
Howsoever see them prov'd scan each line,
If one prove strong, 'tis Gods; if weak', tis mine.
Till this were out, my Muse could finde no rest,
Of all, you love the godly learned best.
Your humble Servant, John Davis.
