Midfield Strength

Coach Beardmore's midfield
depth again made a big difference
in the game. Running three midfields,
the Cavaliers were able to
control the play most of the game
and managed to capture 80 ground
balls to 44 that UNC grabbed.

Virginia's attack was also more
proficient, outshooting the Tar
Heels 45-28. The face-off department
was much more even with the
Cavaliers winning eight and
Carolina winning seven.

Cavalier goalie Jim Eustace was
deprived of the chance to make
many saves by the team's defense,
but he did collect nine. UNC's
goalie, Pete Kramer, had a much
busier afternoon with 21 saves.

Next weekend sees the Cavaliers
traveling to Baltimore to face
Hopkins in what could be the
toughest collegiate game of the
season as well as the most important.
