Famed Duo Featured
In Tuesday Concert
The flute and keyboard duo of
Jean-Pierre Rampal and Robert
Veyron-Lacroix will perform at
8:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 in
Cabell Hall auditorium for their
second successive season in the
Tuesday Evening Concert Series.
'Superlative Concert'
One of the most brilliant musical
duos of our age, the two artists
capped last year's sold-out tour of
the United States with two concerts
to capacity audiences in New
York's Philharmonic Hall. Another
highlight was their return to the
Library of Congress, an occasion
hailed as a "Superlative Concert"
by the Washington Post.
Jean-Pierre Rampal, one of the
world's leading flutists, studied at
the Paris Conservatoire and made
his debut tour in 1946. He since has
performed as soloist and chamber
musician throughout Europe, including
all the major festivals.
Always striving to enlarge his
repertoire, he has revived many
forgotten works and his programs
for duo, chamber groups and
orchestra range from Bach to
Hindemith. Rampal has recorded
more works than almost any other
living flutist, for Columbia, Mercury,
RCA Victor and others. Six
of his recordings have received the
Grand Prix de Disque.
5 First Prizes
Robert Veyron-Lacroix also
studied at the Conservatoire where
he won an unprecedented five first
prizes in piano, harmony, counterpoint,
accompaniment and solfegglo.
One of Europe's outstanding
harpsichordists, he has performed
all over the continent in recital,
chamber music and with orchestra.
Between concerts he is a professor
of harpsichord at the Conservatoire
National Interieur de Musique in
Paris and at the International
Academy in Nice during the
summer.
