PROCEDURE FOR CANCELLING UNCOLLECTIBLE HOSPITAL ACCOUNTS AND
RECONSTITUTION OF THE HOSPITAL ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the Hospital Accounts Committee, composed of the Associate Director for Finance of the Hospital, the Controller of the Hospital, and the Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs Finance and Comptroller, be and it is hereby authorized to:
  • 1. Charge off as bad debts or free service delayed charges up to $35.00 and small balances up to $25.00.
  • 2. Recommend delinquent accounts to collection agencies and attorneys who have been approved in the Office of the Attorney General.
  • 3. Refer to the Board of Visitors any amounts over and above $25.00 which are to be written off as bad debts or free service.
  • 4. Refer to the President any amounts over and above $25.00 which are to be compromised, settled, or discharged under current statutes.
  • RESOLVED FURTHER that the resolution of June 4, 1971, naming the Hospital Accounts Committee as the Comptroller for Medical Affairs, the Hospital Controller, and the Director of the University Hospital be and it is hereby rescinded.
