Yellow Leaves.

Leaves sere and yellow of the falling year,
Scatterd to Earth by the dark sobbing breeze
Of Life's woe-wan November-and impressd
With the old cross, that once on shield or banner
Crownd by the golden Leopard's furious grin
At Palestine, or field of Axincourt,
Or Poitiers, or on lowers of white-cliff'd Calais,
Shone proudly, by its feudal bands adord.
1851.
