To those who loved the negro in mankind, and pitied him,
and stooped to help him in his low estate, assailed by fierce opinions,
and told his grievances in the ear of God, until He heard them,
And shook proud slavery on His lap of storm,
And shook the fetters from the bondman's arms,
And shook oppression from the Nation's heart.
To those, who safe now in the citadel of right, their conquests hearing on the tongue of time,
their triumphs reading in young freedom's eyes, and looking forward,
the full fruition their bright hopes see, the nations of all earth forever free.
