De Comite Leycestrie.
Brochivail wyþ þe Bretons held,Of Leycestre he bar þe scheld;
He had don þe Bretons somoune
Þorow þe contre, fro toun to toune,
Ageyn þenglische for to go.
But þe Bretons were al to fo;
Brochiuail was þer desconfit;
Til a wode he fledde ful tyt,
& his men were slayn al doun;
Þe kyng Elfryk wan þe toun.
Monk & heremite, ilk a tail
Þat hadde þer hope on Brochiuail,
Alle were þey don to swerd,
Lered & lewed, al so ferd.
