To the Memory of W. D. Esq

Interr'd beneath lies one, who never bow'd
The knee to Baal; amongst an erring croud,
Upright, and pure in every word and thing,
He fear'd his God, and honoured his king;
Gen'rous and just, regardful of the poor,
Too wise to wed, too tender to abjure;
Reader, if thou would'st lead his happy life,
Beware, like him, take neither oath nor wife.
