FRANK RYAN; MD, QB

Dr. Frank B. Ryan, gifted
mathematician And one of the
Washington Redskins
quarterbacks, will teach
Foundations of Geometry I, a
graduate course, for the
University of Virginia Center
for Continuing Education this
fall.

The announcement was
made today by Center Director
Dean E. Brundage.

Ryan, for many years
renowned as the brilliant
quarterback of the Cleveland
Browns, is currently backing
up Washington's Sonny
Jurgenson at this position.

Awarded his Ph.D. by Rice
University in 1965, he has
combined a career, in
professional football with that
of academician. His own
theories And interpretations
appear in numerous advanced
mathematics texts.

Ryan is Assistant Professor
of Mathematics at Case
Western Reserve University in
Cleveland where he teaches
During the spring term.
Assisting Dr. Ryan will be Dr.
John Smith, an Assistant
Professor of Mathematics at
George Mason College, Fairfax.
Together they plan a course
which will be of great value to
high school teachers of
mathematics.

The class, which is limited
to 30 students, meets on
Tuesdays from 6:50 to 9:30
p.m. at Swanson Junior High
School. 5800 North
Washington Blvd. in Arlington.
The cost is $61 plus fees And
carries three semester hours of
graduate credit.
