“How harsh and terrible the Fates! That I
Should live my life, and never taste of love
Till thine came on me like the risen sun
After a dreaming night. And then awake,
The great round glory shining on me full,
That I should turn and leave to fickle chance
This new delightful kingdom where I reigned;
Straightway invaded by remorseless Pan!
