A SEA PICTURE.

Life has had sunshine and blue skies for me,
With no more palpitation on its seas
Than needs must rise and fall with any breeze,
That fills our sails, and wafts us merrily,
As here and there we try where the fish be,
And lends such natural motion to the bait
Wherewith the patient fisher lies in wait,
As lures the hunch backed schnapper: Narrowly
Have I missed sunken reefs from time to time
And sailed close under basalt cliffs, and seen
Threats of white squalls up the horizon climb,
Which passed to right or left: and then at e'en
The star of my good fortune shone sublime
To guide the helm and argue heaven serene.
