Someone said a bad word at Student
Council Tuesday night. Thurman Wenzl,
heretofore known mainly for his "stop SDS"
campaign for Council last spring has organized
a new organization whose purpose is to
disseminate underground comic books which
may even have a great deal to say about the
current state of the world for all we know.
But Thurman Wenzl's organization is named
after a bad word.
Our fingers tremble with trepidation even
as we contemplate typing it. Suffice it to say
that Mr. Wenzl's organization has a name that
consists of three words, the third of which is
"League," the second of which is "Obscenity"
and the first of which is an old Anglo-Saxon
term for sexual intercourse that would sorely
offend many of our readers if they were to see
it printed on the pages of The Cavalier Daily.
Obviously, the members of this organization
have dirty minds. They are merely trying
to take advantage of Student Council's
relaxed rules for organizational recognition.
Probably they are also trying to corrupt our
morals. Well do we recall the advice of Lenin
to hippie Communist infiltrators — to make
every effort to bring old Anglo-Saxon terms for
intercourse to the attention of our youth,
thus softening their moral fibre and making
them little more than tools of the Kremlin.
But we have not been fooled, nor have we
been corrupted. We covered our ears every
time the word was used at Student Council
and we intend to continue doing so. We urge
all students to cover their ears and blink their
eyes every time the name of this organization
and the bad, filthy word that is a part of it is
spoken or written in their presence. Mental
purity ought to be of paramount concern to
all of us, and we must protect ourselves from
those nefarious characters that seek to deprive
us of it.
Needless to say, we were shocked that
Student Council would recognize such an
organization, making itself little better than the
purveyors of such filth. Thurman Wenzl
wasn't nice at all to bring it up. Council
should have washed his mouth out with soap.
