“And when thou leav'st thy heavenly path,
To sojourn in the realms beneath,
Be charges of him nightly given
Unto thy lovely Queen of Heaven;
Who, with serene and modest face,
Watches above the human race,
And sways by visions of dismay
The spirits prone to go astray;
For 'tis not hidden from thy sight,
That dangers of the silent night,
Dangers of women's witching smile,
Of wassail, wake, and courtier's wile,
Far deadlier are to virtuous sway
Than all the perils of the day.
