EPIGRAM CCXXVIII.

[Tradition's tale, time out of mind]

AUDI ALTERAM PARTEM.

Tradition's tale, time out of mind,
Paints Fortune, Love, and Justice, blind:
And yet in this description's spite,

And save mankind a world of pother,

Did Love, when Justice calls, attend;
Did Justice, Fortune's deed approve;
And Fortune hear the claims of Love!
