New yeir Gift.

This Apill round I send, ô matchles fare!
As children do for thryse als good agane,
Not such as that by which th' Enbean rare,
The loue of his Atlanta suift did gane:
Nor that by which Acontius did beguile
Cydippe sweet in sacred Dian's Fane.
My minde abhors all such inuention vile,
No secreit slight doth in my gift remane:
It more resembleth that which Ate threw
Mongst Pallas, Iuno, Venus, Dames diuine.
To thee great Queene of all this courtly crew,
I do present this paynted Apill mine.
Were it of Gold, or Paris I, faire Dame,
It should be thine, thou best deseru's the same.
