Quick Strike

Unfortunately, Carolina was not
to be outdone: McCauley promptly
returned the kickoff 80 yards
for a tally, upping the score to
20-7 in favor of the visitors. The
placement was missed, and both
teams paraded to the locker room
for halftime.

The Yearlings received the kickoff
following halftime, and proceeded
to drive for a score, interrupted
by only one brief turnover
to the Carolinians. Clinch
Heyward knifed through the Carolina
line repeatedly, setting up the
score for Selfridge, who plunged
over from the one. With the successful
point attempt, the Cavaliers
had closed the gap to 20-14.

From this point on, however, the
game belonged to the Tar Babies.
Their workhorse, McCauley, tore
off long gains frequently, and
Lanier rolled out with equal case.
