[As eagles fluttering o'er their nest]

As birds flying, so will the Lord defend, &c. —xxxi. 5.

As eagles fluttering o'er their nest
Protect their callow brood,
The Lord shall guard the souls that rest
In His atoning blood:
With tenderest care He passes o'er
His people to defend,
And saves from the destroyer's power,
And saves them to the end.
Even I, the meanest servant I,
Thy kind protection prove;
Jesus, Thou to my help dost fly
On wings of swiftest love:
And while Thy love is my defence,
Whoe'er would injure me
Must first o'erpower Omnipotence,
And force their way through Thee.
