Winding through tangled passages—her brain
O'erfraught with the still horror—for no sound
Lived through the endless caverns—thought and sense

Of being fled from the doomed maiden's heart;
Time, mystery and darkness and lone death,
Like dim dreams, passed o'er her tranced brain, and earth
And agony and wrong and violence
Were but the shadows childhood sports withal!
