WILLIAM FAULKNER GIFT

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the University with gratitude and enthusiasm confirms the acceptance of the splendid gift of the notable collection of manuscripts, typescripts, papers, letters, memorabilia, and other documents pertaining to William Faulkner, formerly owned by the William Faulkner Foundation and held on deposit in the Alderman Library, together with stocks and other assets owned by the Foundation;
  • RESOLVED FURTHER that it is the sense of the Board that the members of the Faulkner family and the officers of the William Faulkner Foundation in assembling, preserving, and entrusting to the University this uniquely complete archive of the work of one of America's greatest men of letters, have made a notable contribution not only to the University, but to the world of letters and scholarships;
  • AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Board is directed to convey the thanks of the Board to each member of the Faulkner family and to Mr. Linton R. Massey, President, and to the other officers of the William Faulkner Foundation, together with a copy of this resolution as evidence of our corporate and individual appreciation of their creative act on behalf of learning.
