CASTANEDA, Carlos (1935-):
the author of The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yanqui Way of Knowledge (1968) and a number of other books purporting to be ANTHROPOLOGICAL accounts of a Native American religious TRADITION. Although awarded a Ph.D. for his first book, by the University of California, many scholars doubt the authenticity of his work and question his academic credentials.
