[Who can a wounded spirit sustain]

A wounded spirit who can bear? —xviii. 14.

Who can a wounded spirit sustain,
When Jesus fainting on the tree
Confess'd the' insufferable pain,
Complain'd “Thou hast forsaken Me!”
He fainted, to support my load,
He died to' obtain my pardon seal'd;
And now I feel His balmy blood,
And by His wounds my soul is heal'd.
