Abra-Ca-Dabra Festival Open

The birth of films at Virginia can
now be proclaimed. The Virginia
Film Production Union has
announced that it is sponsoring the
First Annual Abra-Ca-Dabra Film
Festival. It is open to all students
and faculty. A complete set of rules
and deadlines will be posted next
week, outlining in detail judging,
prizes and screenings.

Films can be entered in one of
two categories: 8mm (regular or
Super 8) and 16mm. The subject of
the films is completely open, the
Film Union will accept
documentaries, skin flicks, avant
garde films, pure visual
extravaganzas, or anything that you
might wish to film. Films will be
judged on an artistic, creative basis,
with credit given for content as well
as cinematics. Deadline for entry is
tentatively set for January 5.

No Department

With no Film Department at the
University, the Film Union provides
the major outlet for the film
enthusiast in the area. Presently,
only Mr. Walter Korte teaches a
class in cinema at the University.

Several projects are slated for
the next few weeks. Films on
pollution in Charlottesville and the
area, original film scripts by
students and other films of general
interest will all begin production
soon. If anyone is interested
(student or faculty and experienced
or not), they are invited to come to
the Union's meeting held every
Tuesday at 8:00 pm in 215 Wilson
Hall.
