On Rush II
While we are not about to recommend
second semester rush any more than we did
the first semester variety, we feel it imperative
to speak out against the thieves who stole the
second semester rush forms last weekend. The
IFC put a batch of rush blanks in the Tuttle
and Emmet House post offices and provided
ballot boxes for collection of the forms. The
idea was that first-year men who wanted
another chance at rush could fill out the
forms and the IFC would send the list to the
houses which wished to rush.
Over the weekend, however, someone stole
the ballot box full of completed forms from
Tuttle House and removed the forms from the
box in Emmet House. Although the response
to the second semester rush opportunity was
fairly extensive, the thieves deprived the IFC
of all but an insignificant percentage of the
forms filled out.
Such an act cannot be countenanced. The
thieves have acted in a manner which makes
the blackball system look like an egalitarian
Utopia and by their thievery alone have made
themselves liable to expulsion from the
University. We would urge the Department of
Security to investigate the matter, apprehend
the thieves if possible, and have a student turn
them over to the Honor Committee. There is a
place for opponents of the fraternity system
here, but it is above-ground; there is no place
at all for the thieves who stole the rush forms.
